Hello Everyone!
In this week’s newsletter, I am happy to share my book notes on How to Get Rich by Felix Dennis.

“Whatever qualities the rich may have, they can be acquired by anyone with the tenacity to become rich. The key, I think, is confidence. Confidence and an unshakeable belief it can be done and that you are the one to do it.”

💭 Personal Reflection
Not everyone is going to be rich.
“Not those who want to and not those who need to. But those who are utterly determined to-whatever the cost.”
If there is one word that defines the best advice to create personal wealth, it’s usually ownership.
As Felix mentions in his book…
“To become rich, you must be an owner… Ownership is not the most important thing. IT IS THE ONLY THING THAT COUNTS.”
In this book, he shares his experience of becoming one of the richest self-made men in Britain, and the countless lessons and insights he learned along the way.
At the time of writing, Felix had an estimated net worth between $400 million and $900 million (US Dollars) before tax.
According to Felix, there are usually three types of people looking to become rich.
All three require capital to start but face different challenges along the way.
1) The young and penniless: They lack the experience.
2) The slightly better and on the way up: They lack the courage.
3) The senior manager or professional: They lack the stamina.
“If there is a single category of person for whom this book should prove the most useful, it is you: the young, penniless and inexperienced.”
The book is divided into four parts.
Part one: Reasons not to get rich.
Part two: Getting started.
Part three: Getting rich.
Part four: How to stay rich.
My favourite chapters from the book are…
Chapter 1: Pole Positions. (pg. 11)
Chapter 3: Harnessing the Fear of Failure. (pg. 31)
Chapter 9: Cardinal Virtues. (pg. 121)
Overall, I really enjoyed reading and listening to this book. It contains many good lessons and reflections on negotiating, fear of failure, execution, hiring talent and cutting loose from negative influences.
I highly recommend owning a physical copy to take notes.
The biggest takeaway I got from this book is that…
Not everyone will become rich; not everyone wants to.
After all, the journey will be full of sacrifices, turbulent times, and many failures.
Don’t be mistaken. There is a high price to pay….
“But a price probably worth paying for those who absolutely, positively – even desperately – wish to be rich.”
Hope this helps; until next time.

✍️ Favourite Quotes
“Money, it turned out, was exactly like sex. You thought of nothing else if you didn’t have it, and thought of other things if you did.”
- James Baldwin.
“Ideas, by the way, cannot be ‘owned’ by anyone. You cannot trademark or patent or copyright any idea. You can only protect the execution of the idea and trademark the name.”
- Felix Dennis.
“That is what it is like in the beginning. Always. It is desperate, and it is humiliating.”
