BN#66 - Worthy by Jamie Kern Lima.
Hello Everyone!
In this week’s newsletter, I am happy to share my book notes on Worthy by Jamie Kern Lima.

You don’t become what you want, you become what you believe you’re worthy of: in life, in love, in friendships, in your career, and in your hopes and dreams.
📚 Book Breakdown
Personal Reading Experience: 3.5/5 (okay)
Topic: Personal development, business & self-help.
Length: 352 pages.
💭 Personal Reflection
I’ve recently struggled with the feeling of not being good enough for my goals and aspirations.
Trying to understand the root cause of these feelings has been extremely confusing.
After reading this book, I learned that I am not alone.
In this book, you can expect to learn about the author’s journey and struggle with self-worth and how she confused attention, achievement, and external validation with love and worthiness.
After reading this book, I learned the four key elements of a fulfilling life.
1) Self-worth: The internal belief that you are worthy of love and belonging regardless of your level of attention, achievement or external validation.
2) Self-confidence: How you evaluate and assess yourself based on external qualities, competencies, and traits.
3) Growth/progress: Your results in your internal and external pursuits.
4) Contribution: Your focus on service and contribution to others.
Jamie explains that self-worth multiplies feelings of fulfillment, while self-confidence, growth, and contribution are merely additions.
In an equation, it would look something like this.
Personal Fulfillment = (self-worth) x (self-confidence + growth + contribution)
If you want to measure your levels of fulfillment from high to low, you’ll get four emotional states.
You are truly fulfilled.
(High self-worth) + (high self-confidence + growth + contribution)
This means you believe you are worthy of love and belonging while believing in your skills and traits to achieve your desired goals.
You are growing and evolving in your internal and external goals while contributing to something beyond yourself.
You are successful on the outside but feel perpetually unfulfilled.
(Low self-worth) + (high self-confidence + growth + contribution)
This means that no matter how much you achieve, it’s never enough, and you won’t feel truly happy or fulfilled.
This is because you have high self-confidence, growth and contribution levels but lack self-worth.
You can feel a deep sense of peace, worth and love, but you do not feel competent or confident in your skills and abilities.
(High self-worth) + (low self-confidence + growth + contribution)
You might be content but lack the joy that comes from building confidence, growing, and contributing to others beyond yourself.
This is because you have high levels of self-worth but low levels of self-confidence, growth and contribution.
You are deeply unsatisfied with life.
(Low self-worth) and (low self-confidence + growth + contribution)
This is because you have low self-worth, self-confidence, growth, and contribution levels.
You do not believe you are worthy, you are not developing your skills, you are not growing, and you are only focused on yourself.
Overall, this is an okay book to read. I was expecting to learn more practical advice on improving self-worth as this is such a big topic. However, if you are looking for a book to relate to her personal stories, this might be a good read for you.
My favourite key takeaways from the book were the following…
Self-worth and self-confidence (pg.21)
The true fulfillment equation (pg. 186)
Self-doubt and God-doubt (pg. 276)
“We might think we have a net-worth problem when what we really have is a self-worth problem.” - Jamie Kern Lima.
Hope this helps, until next week.
