BN#62 - Surrounded by Idiots by Thomas Erikson.
Hello Everyone!
Welcome to the re-launch of this newsletter in 2024!
I have changed email platforms and changed the branding of the newsletter. Moving forward, I will be using my personal name instead of Hustle Outlet.
For those who are new to the newsletter, my name is Agustin, and for the past 2 years, I have been reading a minimum of 25+ books per year.
This newsletter was born with the idea of sharing what I learn from the books I read.
At first, it started as a way for me to remember what I read, but it has evolved to focus on sharing valuable information with people wanting to learn.
I continue to work hard to keep providing the most amount of value to whoever has invested the time to read this newsletter.
If you have any suggestions or feedback or want to leave a testimonial, reply to this email, and I will make sure to get back to you!
With all that being said, let's get to this week’s book notes!

“No matter how strange it might seem, in theory, every kind of behaviour is normal.”

💭 Personal Reflection
Another great book with a controversial title.
This book is very much worth reading and reflecting on.
Have you ever wondered why you are who you are?
Or perhaps you wondered why some people are so different?
Well, "this is not new, as in all cultures, there has always been a need to categorize people.”
From the Greeks to the Aztecs and, more recently, modern psychologists.
The idea of being "surrounded by idiots" comes from an example given in the book about a certain boss who lacks the understanding that there are, in fact, different personalities out there.
According to the book, there are four.
1) Red (Dominance): They are quick to react; they like being in control, are not cautious, act urgently, are strong-willed, and like taking charge.
2) Yellow (Influence): Social, optimistic, amusing, creative, and they like to be in constant conversations with other people.
3) Green (Stability): Calm, pleasant, genuine, thoughtful, and likes to avoid conflict of any kind.
4) Blue (Compliance): Levelheaded, considerate, analytical, precise and tends to be perfectionistic.
“About 80 percent of all people have a combination of two colours that dominate their behaviour.”
In this book, you can expect to discover your personality type and others, but most importantly, how to make the most out of it.
We are who we are as a combination of heredity and our environment.
“Even before we're born, the foundations for behaviour patterns we will exhibit in adulthood have been laid.”
Our core behaviour is made up of our values and attitudes.
Our values are what we learned early on in our lives as we find out what we, as people, value the most in our interactions with the world.
Our attitudes are things we form opinions based on experiences we have had and will continue to have.
This is a great book to read, as it is full of valuable information on scientific data on personalities and human behaviour.
You will not agree with all descriptors of your personality type unless you are one hundred percent a certain colour; regardless of this fact, it is worth exploring this topic to understand ourselves and others better.
The biggest takeaway I took from this book is the following…
“There is really no pattern of behaviour that is right or wrong. There is no such thing as proper behaviour or incorrect behaviour. You are who you are, and there’s no point in wondering why.”
There is no optimal personality; no group should be composed solely of individuals of the same type. Diversity is the only possible route.
I hope this helps. Until next week!

✍️ Quotes
"We often react in consistent patterns. Therefore, we should respect one another’s patterns. And understand our own."
"Flexibility and the ability to interpret other people’s needs is what characterizes a good communicator."
“If you feel pressure and have high expectations about what you will do and how you are meant to be, you can become stressed.”
❤️ Thank you for the support!
